Creating a New Layout

To create a new layout from scratch, select a store on the Stores page and from the main menu, select Layouts. From the Store Designer Dashboard, select Layouts. From the left side panel, select New Layout.

Enter Layout Details.

The new Layout will appear in the list.

To load a background drawing, click on the Import Layout button .

The Background Importer Wizard opens.

Select the required Import Mode:

Complete: This mode allows the selection of a new CAD file which will be set as the new layout background and any matching blocks converted into fixtures. All existing placed entities in the layout will be deleted and if a CAD background already exists it will be replaced.

Replace only CAD background: This mode allows the selection of a new CAD file which will be set as the new layout background. If a background already exists in the layout it will be replaced. Any existing placed entities in the layout are unaffected.

Replace only entities: This mode allows the selection of a CAD file to be scanned for matching blocks which can then be converted into fixtures. All existing placed entities in the layout will be deleted. No changes are made to the existing CAD background if one is present.

Rescan existing background: This mode checks the existing CAD background to see if any blocks that were not previously converted into fixtures can now be converted. Any existing placed entities in the layout are unaffected and no changes are made to the CAD background.

Complete mode should be used for a new layout.

If the CAD file contains dynamic blocks, ensure a Block Import Profile has been configured and select this from the Import Profile list – refer to Block Import Profiles and CAD File Import Guide for more information.

Click Next. A CAD file can be dragged and dropped in, or you can click the button to browse. The Background Importer Wizard accepts the following formats: .dwg, .dwf, .dxg and .dgn.

The next step involves the selection of fixture blocks. A fixture represents a physical object that can be placed onto a store layout. Fixtures might include gondolas, checkouts, tables and fridge/freezer cabinets. There are two types of fixtures: CAD blocks and user defined. For details on the Fixture Manager, refer to Fixture Manager.

The Background Importer Wizard lists all matched blocks; i.e., blocks found in the uploaded CAD drawing that match a fixture in the fixture library. Matching blocks are converted into intelligent objects and automatically selected for import.

Matched blocks:

If there are blocks which should not be converted to fixtures on import, untick them in the list.

Custom Blocks lists any dynamic blocks included in the CAD file.

The Background Importer Wizard also lists unmatched blocks – CAD blocks found in the CAD drawing without a match in the fixture library.

Unmatched blocks:

If unmatched blocks need to be imported, first import them to the fixture library (see Fixture Import Wizard) and then re-run the background import process. The Background Importer Wizard will recognize them as matched blocks and automatically import them. In this case, Rescan existing background mode can be used.

Invalid custom blocks are blocks unsuitable for import.

Click Next to proceed.

The next step allows for the selection of drawing units, which should match the drawing unit of the selected CAD file; i.e., select millimeters for a CAD file which has millimeters as the drawing unit.

Tick Preview Layers to Import to view a preview of the selected layers to import. Click Next to proceed.

The Layers Preview lists all the layers that will be imported. It automatically selects layers set to visible in the CAD drawing. Use the check boxes to select or de-select layers. Use the panel on the right-hand side to preview changes when selecting/de-selecting layers. Layers can also be de-selected by clicking them on the drawing.

Click Next to proceed.

The next step displays all the import options defined. Review them carefully and use the Previous button to go back steps and make changes, if needed. Click Next to proceed.

The next step involves processing the import. Wait until all steps are completed and click Next to proceed.

The last screen concludes the importing process. Any issues during import are displayed during this last step. Click Finish to conclude.

The layout will open with the newly imported background.
